Working with Nature
At Irish Hereford Prime, our 6,000+ farmer members are committed to farming that protects the environment, preserves resources and builds climate resilience. Every step of our production is rooted in nature from the ground up.

Grass-Fed and Low-Input
Our Hereford cattle are powered by Ireland's most abundan natural resource: grass. Through paddock grazing and extended outdoor seasons, farmers maximise weight gain while reducing feed inputs. Multi-species swards and red clover further boost soil health and reduce fertiliser use.

Healthy Soils, Smarter Systems
Sustainability begins with the soil. Our farmers regularly test soil for fertility, spread slurry at optimal times and use protected urea to minimise nitrogen loss. These practices support both productivity and environmental health.

Regenerative Approaches
Many members are adopting regenerative methods, like rotating cattle every two days and using nitrogen-fixing crops to naturally restore soil nutrients. These systems improve pasture resilience, reduce input costs and support biodiversity.

Climate Action on the Ground
Irish Hereford Prime is piloting a programme to capture key environmental data in four areas: soil carbon, soil health, hedgerows and water quality. Members also participate in national schemes like ACRES and SCEP, which promote biodiversity and carbon efficiency.

Circular Thinking
Our commitment includes recycling silage plastic into useful items like fence posts and furniture, practical steps that contribute to the circular economy. From soil sampling to silage analysis, Irish Hereford Prime farmers are data driven, eco-conscious stewards of the land, producing premium beef in harmony with nature.
