Irish Hereford Prime and the Irish Hereford Breed Society announce this year’s winners as the competition supports new charity partner Make-A-Wish Ireland
The results are in! Irish Hereford Prime and the Irish Hereford Breed Society have announced the winners of the 2026 Hereford Charity Photo Competition, celebrating another year of outstanding photography showcasing the beauty, character and versatility of the Hereford breed.
Now in its seventh year, the annual competition attracted entries from across Ireland, with farmers, breeders, families and young photography enthusiasts capturing Hereford cattle in a variety of settings, from peaceful countryside scenes to moments that highlight the distinctive personalities of these animals.
This year’s overall winner was Fiona Murphy from Co. Mayo, whose photograph, Field of Dreams, took first place in Category 2, The HEX Factor, before going on to claim the coveted overall title and €500 cash prize.
Celebrating the Winners
The competition featured three categories this year, with an independent judge shortlisting entries before the finalists went forward to a public vote on the Irish Hereford Breed Society’s Facebook page.
In Category 1, Herefords – The Natural Choice, celebrating pedigree Hereford animals, Theola Heatrick from Co. Monaghan claimed first place with A Touch of Frost. Second place went to Lilly Cooke from Co. Tipperary for Catch Me If You Can!

Category 2, The HEX Factor, focused on Hereford cross animals, with Fiona Murphy’s overall winning photograph, Field of Dreams, taking the top spot. Martin O’Connor from Co. Galway secured second place with Chatting to the Neighbours.

The Under 18s category once again highlighted the talent and enthusiasm of the next generation. Thomas Moynihan from Co. Tipperary took first place with Perfect Position, while Sinead Gleeson from Co. Limerick was awarded second place for Relaxing in the Sun.

First and second place winners in each category received prizes valued at €250 and €150 respectively, with a choice of SuperValu or Farm Wardrobe vouchers.
A New Charity Partnership for 2026
This year’s competition also marked the beginning of an important new partnership with Make-A-Wish Ireland, the chosen beneficiary of the 2027 Hereford Charity Calendar.
Make-A-Wish Ireland grants wishes to children living with critical medical conditions, creating moments of happiness, hope and lasting memories for children and their families. Since its establishment in 1992, the charity has granted more than 3,600 wishes across Ireland.
With no government funding, Make-A-Wish relies on the generosity of individuals, communities and corporate partners to continue its work.
All proceeds from sales of the 2027 Hereford Charity Calendar will go towards supporting the charity, giving the Hereford community another opportunity to make a meaningful difference while celebrating the breed.
Looking Ahead to the 2027 Hereford Charity Calendar
The winning and shortlisted photographs will go forward for inclusion in the upcoming 2027 Hereford Charity Calendar, bringing together a collection of images that reflect the beauty of Irish farming, the Hereford breed and the creativity of those who photograph them.
The 2027 Hereford Charity Calendar will be available for purchase starting mid-November, priced at €10, which includes postage and packaging. Every calendar sold will contribute directly to Make-A-Wish Ireland, helping to grant wishes to children living with critical medical conditions and bringing hope, joy and lasting memories to them and their families. With its blend of stunning imagery and charitable purpose, the calendar makes a perfect stocking filler and a meaningful gift.
This year’s calendar competition highlights not only the beauty of the Hereford breed but also the generosity and community spirit of those who care for them. By purchasing a calendar, supporters can enjoy breathtaking photographs while making a tangible difference for children and families across Ireland.
Irish Hereford Prime and the Irish Hereford Breed Society would like to congratulate all six category winners and thank everyone who entered, voted and supported this year’s competition.
