Bacchus Restaurant

Athlone, Co. Westmeath
Set on the banks of the River Shannon and offering wonderful views of the surrounding area, the bright and contemporary atmosphere of Bacchus restaurant sits beautifully with its menu’s mix of modern and traditional Mediterranean inspired dishes.
Owned and operated by head chef Casim Buyukkaya, Bacchus restaurant has been a favourite with the people of Athlone since 2017. Originally from Turkey, Casim has been living in Ireland for the past 20 years.
Having learned his trade, alongside his brothers, in his hometown – a tourist village on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, Casim moved to Ireland in 2002 and began working in the Tullamore Court Hotel. From there he went on to work as a wedding/a la carte chef in the Radisson Hotel and soon took on the responsibilities of head chef for the Hotel.
Casim works five to six days a week at Bacchus and loves to see his regular customers coming back, as well as welcoming new people. He has used Irish Hereford Prime for many years and finds that its consistent quality ensures that his customers are always happy with their dishes.

“I have tried other beef and other suppliers, but it is never as nice as Irish Hereford Beef, the quality is not as good, and you don’t find the same level of consistency.”

Casim points to the striploin as his favourite cut and he uses it not only as a main course, but also for the mince for his Sheesh Kebab, a favourite starter among his customers. He also offers the Rib Eye and the T-Bone on his menu, cutting the steaks himself as he knows exactly what his customers want.

With a son just completing a masters in UCD and his wife settled in the local community, Casim is happy to continue to serve great food to his loyal customers in Athlone for many years to come.

“I enjoy cooking a mix of dishes; Irish, European, Mediterranean, Irish people are so warm and welcoming, and I have found that they love to try different foods and tastes. I am very happy to keep cooking for my customers and creating new dishes for them to enjoy.”
